The courses begin with a discussion of practical cases drawn from the instructors’ surgical experience, conducted in person in some cases and online in others. The concepts allow participants to stay up to date on the latest research and provide a scientific foundation for their practice.
Live surgeries, broadcast to a small group of selected participants in each course, are designed to demonstrate the decision-making process of the instructor performing the procedure; sharing this process allows participants to understand the sequence of steps and the rationale behind the instructor’s decisions, thereby incorporating new knowledge into their skill set.
These hands-on exercises, duly approved by SCOLLA’s bioethics committee and facilitated by veterinary medicine professors, provide students with surgical training in the most realistic simulation environment available in medical education.
